2 Timothy 1:13-14
(New
American Standard Bible)
13”Retain
the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love
which are in Christ Jesus. 14Guard,
through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted
to you.”
The Apostle Paul has given much effort to instill young
Timothy with sound doctrine. He was so very aware that deceiving and lying
teachers had already infiltrated the early church. The anti Christ workers of
evil were trying to lead the innocent believers back into sin and bondage. They
were distorting the words of Jesus and the Covenant of God.
The same is true today. The enemy of our soul
intensely spreads his vicious lies everywhere. Ungodly spirits of anti-Christ
doctrine saturates every part of modern life.
Our nation is in the grip of paganism and sin. The
statutes of God are maligned. The Babylonian system of business and economics
is contaminated with anti-Christ corruption and dishonest practices. The honest
person has little hope of success in the face of the ravening wolves about us.
Praise God! He has given us the King of Kings,
Christ Jesus our Lord. He is returning soon to conquer and judge. He will
destroy the ungodly systems of this world and take charge. He will bring
righteous government to us forever. We will rule and reign with him for all the
ages to come.
Just as Paul admonished Timothy, God has preserved
his words in scripture that the “Remnant” might not be deceived.
The chosen of God must be particularly careful to
walk uprightly before the Lord. We have been commissioned by Him to set the
standard of righteousness before others.
Just as in the days of the Apostle Paul we must know
and adhere to the truth. We must preserve it in our own lives while teaching it
to others.
He has entrusted this message to us. We are of the
Remnant of Israel, the
We of the House of Israel have the truth, God’s covenant, both old and new. We know the truth of His promise. We are redeemed through His atonement, cleansed and given new life by his grace. (1 Peter 1:8) The Holy Spirit empowers us. Rejoice! His word is truth and shall endure forever. We can put discouragement to flight. We are conquerors. We are the victors! Praise His Holy Name!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Help me know these truths.
I want to cling to them forever. I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
